Former WMU Basketball Player Attempting to Break World Record for Longest Freestyle Rap

Pat Cleland played college basketball for Western Michigan University from 1999-2003. While he still sports the shaved head and 6’5 frame, Cleland looks much more like a musician/rapper than a clean cut basketball player these days.

The 33-year old Grand Rapids, MI resident now known as Rich Chyme plans to perform a 17-hour improvised freestyle rap through downtown Grand Rapids from 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, until 1 a.m. Sept. 22.

The Guinness Book World Record for longest freestyle was set in May 2013. Austin Antoine rapped for 16 hours and 31 minutes continuously.

The freestyle is one entry in Artprize, a popular Grand Rapids art exhibition that aims to bring spectators and artists of all genres to the Michigan city.
