In a world of Twitter Kings and Insta Douches, J. Cole manages to keep his personal life out of the public eye. No pics, no tweets, no blogs. Even Cole’s bars are incredibly cryptic with regard to love and relationships. He’ll happily wax about his foot-sized hammer and ruining some poor woman’s couch, but actual relationship details are hardly descriptive. Almost exactly one year ago, it was revealed that Cole was engaged to his longtime college (I see you, St. John’s) girlfriend. But news since then? Zilch.
So, of course, it’s only fitting that his friend and confidant – Creed and Fruitvale Station director, Ryan Coogler – was the one to spill the beans about J. Cole getting hitched. In an interview at an #MLKNow event in NYC, Coogler surprised Cole with a question about married life. Until then, no one outside Cole’s circle new about the nuptials. Just goes to show ya, no matter how many times Calvin Palmer touches up that Weeknd cut or Forest Hills Drive goes platinum, regular guy shit still applies. Rich, poor, old, young, hip hop royalty or drunken blogger trying to pick up gremlins at the pub – you can always count on a friend to totally blow up your spot.
Cole played it off smooth but he was clearly trying to keep this off the world wide web. Lets just hope it’s not a wonder whether that’s your kid love.
